Das ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board), Unterordnung der Entertainment Software Association , gegründet 1994 , bewertet Computerspiele nach deren Eignung für Kinder und Jugendliche in den USA , ähnlich der USK in Deutschland.

Altersbeschränkungen

• eC (= early Childhood; ab 3 Jahren geeignet)
• E (= Everyone; ab 6 Jahren geeignet)
• E10+ (= Everyone 10 and older; ab 10 Jahren geeignet)
• T (= Teen; ab 13 Jahren geeignet)
• M (= Mature; ab 17 Jahren geeignet)
• AO (= Adults Only; ab 18 Jahren geeignet)
• RP (= Rating Pending; bedeutet, dass noch keine Alterseinschränkung beschlossen wurde)

Die Altersfreigaben sind nicht verbindlich, jedoch haben verschiedene Politiker angekündigt, den ESRB-Freigaben offiziellen Status zu vergeben, d. h. sie würden dann verbindlich sein.

• Edutainment - Content of product provides user with specific skills development or reinforcement learning within an entertainment setting. Skill development is an integral part of product (Das Spiel hat lehrreiche Elemente)
• Fantasy Violence - Violent actions of a fantasy nature, involving human or non-human characters in situations easily distinguishable from real life (Gewalt, jedoch eher unwirklicher Natur)
